There It Is REDUX – Alternative Satellite Maps For Collectors v1.0
Alternative satellite world maps for the collectors out there. More improve. More immersive. More REDUX.
This mod retextures the 3 satellite world maps to show marked & unmarked locations.
The goal is to make it easier to see what collectables a location holds in the least intrusive way.
This is the much improved version of this mod and this mod.
This included the following changes:
All locations, magazines, bobbleheads, holotapes & uniques are marked.
It also marks previously unmarked locations like merchants, quests, encounters and underwater locations.
The Alternative Satellite World Maps for the Commonwealth, Far Harbor & Nuka World are used as a base.
There are 3 different variants for 3 different collectors.
The Minimalist marks locations, merchants & encounters.
The Completionist also shows magazines, bobbleheads, uniques & quests.
The Perfectionist further adds holotapes & underwater locations.
There is also a modified variant of the Perfectionist that also marks all Power Armor locations.
The Luxor and Pine variants of these maps are now optionally available as collector maps.
These are different visuals for the base maps. Default is as you know it. Brown and grey, with barely any trees, a dead wasteland.
Luxor uses Luxor’s Summer textures for a very vibrant green and grassy look. This could be used if you use another grass mod as well.
And Pine uses Another Pine Forest which adds pine trees all over the map. This could also be used if you use another tree mod.
A configuration file is included that fixes some general issues related to the Pip-Boy and the maps.
The necessary line disables FX to allow color on the Pip-Boy screen.
The other lines cause the screen to not look washed out and make it look sharper.
These are some INI tweaks that I have personally used for years, and are a nice companion for these new crispy maps.
REDUX
The entire mod has pretty much been started from scratch. New legend, new icons, new font and new implementation.
Everything has been made to be immersive. Weathered paper legend, typewriter font and icons to match. The icons now blend well with the map.
The icons float around the map markers. Multiple collectibles are actual multiple icons instead of a number.
There is a wrinkle overlay to make it look like the map was found somewhere, flattened and scanned in digitally.
The legends for the DLC maps only show what can be found there. Nuka World has all 3 collectible quest and magazines split up with their own icons.
The Power Armor legend is now separate with a little add on legend to the main one.
Corrected all known mistakes. Discovered more mistakes while redoing the mod and these were corrected as well. Nuka world especially was a mess.
Some more locations are marked. Some extra collectible icons were added. And so much more. For all details, see changelog.
The maps are 8k resolution.
This makes the maps much sharper, but it was also necessary for the new icons to work.
Making the map markers smaller is not recommended.
The icons have been manually fitted for the vanilla size and changing this would defeat that purpose.
It would actually do the opposite of what it is supposed to do and make everything look much worse.
I’ll also be very disappointed because I had to manually check every single map marker about 4 times to make sure it all fit perfectly.
This is simply 3 map textures for each of the regions and some ini settings for an improved Pip-Boy experience.
The icons are baked into the texture and cannot be removed or checked off.
The goal
The goal is to make it easier to see at a glance what collectables a location holds. A little back in the head reminder before or after entering a location.
It marks useful locations you want to go towards or see like unmarked merchants, encounter quests & annoying collection quests.
Not having to go outside the game to look up locations of bobbleheads or where cappy markings are in Nuka World. All of it is findable in game now.
The REDUX icons blend in with the map so they are not that distracting. They float nicely around the vanilla map markers for a clean look.
No scripts, no broken precombines, a simple texture replacer.
Icon info
The location icon always points down toward the map marker, so the icon will always be above the map marker and the location below it.
The rest of the icons float close by the location icon around the map marker. This means the things found there are in and around this location.
If there are multiples of an icon displayed, there are that many of whatever it is to be found there.
There are some free floating icons with no location nearby. Whatever can be found there is somewhere close by.
Vanilla Map
You have another map installed somewhere that overwrites this one.
No color
Another mod or config file is overwriting the “bPipboyDisableFX=1” line.
Compatibilities
FallUI – Map is fully compatible.
The mod works out of the box with this one.
All Pip-Boy mods are fully compatible.
This mod is just textures, it touches nothing about the Pip-Boy so all of these work.
