.38 Does Not Suck

It bothered me that the only guns that fired the uber-common .38 round by default were the hand-made pipe guns that get ditched after the early game. Granted, while there are .38 receivers for the Combat Rifle and Hunting Rifle, they require several levels of gun-nut, and by that point are overshadowed by much more useful modifications.

It also bothered me that the SMG did half the damage of a homemade Pipe Revolver, and nearly a third of the damage of the combat Carbine, both of which use the same ammo. It also burned through it very quickly, making it very expensive to feed in the early/mid game. And while the Deliverer was an amazing pistol that completely outclassed the much larger standard 10mm pistol, if you tried to load a gun that small with 10mm rounds, it would probably just explode loading a 10mm round into a blowback operated pistol designed for .380 would not work out well.

So, I killed two birds in one stone. The SMG does the same damage (which was equal to a standard pipe gun) and uses the cheaper, more readily available .38 round. The Deliverer was also converted to .38, and the damage was reduced to be slightly less than the 10mm.

UPDATE:
-Used Old Nick’s fix to the leveled lists so that the correct ammo types were dropped. Not only did he see the problem, he fixed it himself. Major props dude.

-Created 2 optional versions: one for the Deliverer only (for fans of the original Thompson) and one for the Deliverer only (for those with wrists of steel.) Both work on their own and do not require the main mod.

-Created a 3rd optional for those who want the SMG to remain .45 but not suck as much. The base damage has been increased from 13 to 24, equal to the pipe revolver. Fair warning: this will make the Spray n’ Pray into even more of a murder machine. NOTE: For obvious reasons it will not work with the base mod or the .38 SMG mods. However, it will work just fine with the .38 Deliverer.

To Be Done:
Once I figure out how to alter the effects of weapon mods with FO4 edit (or the creation kit comes out, whichever comes first) I plan to add a .45 Receiver to the SMG, and a 10mm Receiver to the Deliverer, both with improved stats. Additionally, I’d like to make a .38 receiver for the revolver, so that the true spirit of Humphrey Bogart may shine through.
