Introduction
Ever noticed how NPCs often aim for your feet, even when you are standing right in front of them?

A Raider with a pistol.
A Gunner with a combat rifle.
Even a sniper with a scoped rifle.

Instead of aiming where it actually matters, they often shoot at random body parts, making combat feel unnatural and making weapon classes feel far less distinct than they should.

This mod overhauls that completely.

NPCs now use smarter body-part targeting based on their weapon, firing mode, scope, movement and distance to the target.

A sniper will prioritize high value shots instead of aiming at your feet from hundreds of meters away. Semi automatic rifles reward precision. While automatic weapons keep you under pressure with sustained suppressive fire aimed at center mass. Pistols, shotguns and energy weapons each receive their own unique aiming behavior.

Just one piece of advice: don’t underestimate enemies armed with a Gauss Rifle. They certainly won’t underestimate you.

What to Expect
Adaptive Aim gives each weapon type its own targeting behavior. NPCs no longer choose body parts with the same generic logic for every weapon.

Semi-Automatic Weapons
NPCs fire more deliberately and receive a higher chance to aim for the head. They favor accurate, controlled shots over random targeting.

Automatic Weapons
Automatic fire focuses primarily on center mass. Headshots are less common, while torso and leg shots become more likely during sustained fire.

Rifles
Rifles provide balanced and accurate targeting, with more focus on the torso and head and fewer unnecessary shots at the legs.

Pistols
Pistols primarily target center mass. They remain capable of landing headshots, but are less precise than dedicated rifles.

Shotguns
Shotguns favor close-range shots to the upper body.

Sniper Rifles
Scoped, slow-firing rifles are treated as sniper weapons. Snipers prioritize high-value shots, aim for the head more often and are far less likely to waste a carefully placed shot on your feet.

Scopes
Scopes increase head priority and reduce leg targeting. At long range, they also compensate for most of the targeting penalty caused by distance.

Gauss Rifles
Gauss rifles strongly favor precise torso and head shots, while leg targeting is greatly reduced.

Laser Weapons
Laser weapons receive a small precision bonus, making headshots slightly more likely than with comparable ballistic weapons.

Laser Muskets
Laser muskets receive a much stronger precision bonus. Their slow, deliberate firing behavior makes them especially effective at targeting the head.

Plasma Weapons
Plasma weapons favor center mass slightly more than laser weapons, while still receiving a small increase to head targeting.

Miniguns
Miniguns concentrate heavily on the torso and legs. Headshots remain possible, but are extremely rare due to the weapon’s sustained and imprecise firing style.

Distance
At long range, NPCs aim less frequently at the head and more often at easier targets. A scope compensates for most of this penalty.

Movement
NPCs become less accurate while walking, running and sprinting. The faster they move, the wider their spread becomes and the more they favor center mass over precise headshots.

All values can be adjusted in the included INI file, allowing every weapon profile, targeting weight and accuracy multiplier to be customized.
