Next on my bucket list of things that disappointed me in Fallout 4: Mini nuke explosion sounds. In Fallout 3, they were plain but very beefy, and I liked them. The first time I heard a car explode in Fallout 4, I had to make sure I hadn’t misheard. Quite a letdown. And I was not satisfied with any of the other incidental substitutes.

This mod replaces the sounds used for mini nuke and vehicle explosions. It does not replace other explosion sounds. As with my Higher Female Protagonist Voice mod, this is a mod I made for myself, which I feel solves a major shortcoming in the game, and which I will be using.

My replacements are, in essence, hybrids of various elements found in both Fallout 3 and Fallout 4. Prior to hybridizing them, I painstakingly restored the originals, which were clipped to hell among other things, and hid away most of the evidence that they were sourced from extremely stock sounds. I also lengthened the rumble duration in all instances.

This mod is not done. There are some quirks (bugs) with how the sounds are handled in-game – vanilla or otherwise – but existing editing software does not provide enough information to reasonably enable one to fix them. I also probably intend to tweak the visual effect.

NOTE: The provided .esp is not a dummy file. It is needed.

Compatibility:

This mod will override other tweaks made to mini nuke / vehicle explosion sounds.

Installation (as of 2016-1-8):

1. Follow the Fallout 4 Mod Installation guide to learn the latest method for setting up custom mods.

2. Add the name of the esp file of your chosen voice type (for example: “Higher Female Protagonist Voice (Japanese) – Type A4.esp”) to the plugins.txt file, which is typically located in C:\Users\(your username)\AppData\Local\Fallout4.

3. Extract the contents of the archive to your Fallout4\Data\ directory.

Uninstall:

1. Remove the archive’s extracted contents from your Fallout4\Data\ directory.

2. Remove the name of the esp file from your plugins.txt file.
